Music
Intent
At Gravel Hill we strongly believe that Music is an essential part of life; integral in the development of the whole person. We believe that the opportunity to engage in musical experiences is crucial for the development of the child.
The intention is that children gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions and music genres, ensuring all lessons are carefully planned to develop continuous progression and depth, building on previous knowledge and achievements. We intend to nurture and develop children’s confidence to express themselves through and respond to a range of music.
It is our intent that the children develop a curiosity of the subject and to make music an enjoyable, rich and stimulating learning experience. We enable children to participate in a variety of musical experiences and addition opportunities such as but not limited to; Christmas performances, singing assemblies, KS2 Choir practice (Voices on the Hill) and external performing musicians and specialists. Through which we aim to build a range of skills, understanding and a passion for music.
Music at Gravel Hill must engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talents as musicians and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
